Fine Jewelry

Fine jewelry should be elegant, distinctive and functional!   We take pride in offering many unique designs from some of the most creative jewelry suppliers in the world.

One of the more unique items we carry is the famous “Huggie” earrings.  Earrings that hinge and hug the ear lobe from the Germany manufacture Breuning.  A great earring for ladies who spend lots of time on the phone.

Custom Jewelry

Although we have a number of exotic items, we often do custom pieces as well with techniques that we’ve learned through our education.  Some of the techniques that our four jewelers excel at include;

• Bead setting

• Prong setting

• Pav’e work (where the stones are placed so close together that no metal shows)

• Bright cutting

While many jewelers have learned the first few techniques, very few of them have the physical strength to do bright cutting, which is when the jeweler needs to hand carve the metal and set the stones in a particular way. In addition to strength, it takes good hand eye coordination, the ability to picture what you want to create, and the ability to produce the final product.

However, according to Russ Peterson, president of Solid Gold Jewelers, his staff has mastered bright cutting. For that reason, Russ has said that, "No other store in Bloomington-Normal has the capabilities we have, both with the number of jewelers on staff and the types of skills each jeweler brings to the bench."
