Custom Jewelry

In addition to repairs we create beautiful custom jewelry.  Our professional jewelers like Linda Vance and Jim Anderson excel in wax model making, casting and fabrication of jewelry.  All done in the store!   So you can talk to the person making your dream into a reality.

While many jewelers have learned the basic techniques of diamond setting, very few have the physical strength to do bright cutting, which is when the jeweler needs to hand carve the metal and set the stones in a particular way. In addition to strength, it takes good hand eye coordination, the ability to picture what you want to create, and the ability to produce the final product.

However, according to Russ Peterson, president of Solid Gold Jewelers, his staff has mastered bright cutting. For that reason, Russ has said that, "No other store in Bloomington-Normal has the capabilities we have, both with the number of jewelers on staff and the types of skills each jeweler brings to the bench."

Watch Repair

Not only do we sell watches-we also repair them!  Thanks to Jack Donavon, who operates Jack Donovan Watch Repair in the Solid Gold store we are able to repair nearly any kind of watch.  As he would happily tell you himself, "We repair all types of watches, from antique and classic spring-wound to battery-powered, including the latest quartz models."

Despite the rise in the purchasing of inexpensive watches, Jack points out that even after 42 years, he keeps plenty busy.

Whether it's a family heirloom or a watch of sentimental value, Jack understands they need to be cleaned, maintained and repaired from time to time. They also do a number of battery replacements as part of their business.
